This is coming at a time when most Computer Science departments in Nigerian old generation universities have Computer Science departments that have no Computer sets for class use and where courses like Artificial Intelligence and Robotics are not taught, thereby making students unprepared for a future economy as it is in world class universities elsewhere.
Anne-Marie, who hails from Edo State is a computer scientist, mathematician, social entrepreneur, and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Stemettes, a social enterprise that inspires and supports girls to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Obaseki, in a statement, said the appointment is a testament to the indomitable Edo spirit, which places hard work, diligence, and determination as core virtues in pursuit of excellence.
The statement reads: “It is with great pride that I heartily congratulate you, our own dear Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon, MBE on your well-deserved appointment as the Chancellor of Glasgow Caledonian University, UK.
“Your latest feat is a testament to the indomitable Edo spirit, which places hard work, diligence, and determination as core virtues in pursuit of excellence.
“As a worthy Edo daughter, you have made us proud and we are impressed by your lofty achievements. You have continued to give an excellent account of yourself, putting the State on the global stage for good.”
He said: “We celebrate your genius and strength of purpose, which have now earned you this coveted recognition and honour.
You serve as an inspiration to many young Edo youths looking out for worthy mentors to guide them aright in a world filled with numerous distractions.”
The governor added, “While wishing you an impactful stay in office, I urge you to keep the spirit of excellence alive. Accept my sincere congratulations.”
Peter Obi on the other hand said:
“Young Nigerians, in different fields of endeavour have continued to blaze the trail on the global stage and it is a thing of joy to read their success stories.
“ Recently, I read the story of Dr. Anne-Marie Imafidon, a 33-year-old British-Nigerian lady who has been appointed the Chancellor of Glasgow Caledonian University, United Kingdom, making her the youngest person to hold such a position in the UK.
“I am glad to celebrate these young Nigerians and many other unsung heroes not captured in the media, and whose stories of success remind us of the endless flow of creativity and infinite supply of talents with which Nigeria is endowed.
“Given the right leadership in the country, Nigerian youths will continue to excel on the global stage. I sincerely congratulate them on their recent achievements and urge them not to rest on their oars but to strive harder for higher goals.
“I also encourage them to inspire the younger ones who look up to them and continue to contribute to the development of our nation. By delivering the right leadership, in the New Nigeria, our youth will continue to soar higher on the global stage
“It is upon these foundations that we shall build the New Nigerian”. -PO
