Major news blogs have gleefully carried an allegedly angry pronouncement by a Catholic Church priest, Reverend Father Mbaka of Adoration ministries that Peter Obi, Labour Party presidential candidate is a stingy man.

Peter Obi who is at the moment understudying how Egypt solved it’s electric power woes by throttling it’s generating capacity to 60,000 MW for a population that is about 109 million people, while Nigeria (the supposed giant of Africa), with a population of almost 200 million generates a paltry 4,000 megawatts, was former governor of Anambra State where he left a healthy financial balance sheet for his successor over eight years ago.

Learning new ways on increasing Power generation and distribution. Here’s Peter Obi in Egypt.

He quit the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) recently by backing out of it’s highly monetized presidential primaries out of personal principles.

For this, Reverend Father Mbaka calls him stingy according to some online news reports which The Oasis Reporters have not yet verified.

Reactions have trailed the news report.

There’s something we at The Oasis Reporters know about Peter Obi on the other side of stinginess. The man is the exact opposite of being stingy.

Imagine a former officer, who went into the private sector to create wealth, then over seven years of leaving Government House in Awka, shells out 100,000 million naira to donate to a Catholic Church hospital, The Bishop Shanahan Catholic Church Hospital, yet a priest of that same Church calls him stingy. That is one reason we are yet to believe that the gentle priest could have uttered those words. It doesn’t add up at all.

Peter Obi did not spend that kind of money to lay the foundation for a private university, hospital or hotel he may wish to build for himself, but had given it out to a mission hospital for the good of the society.

That’s selflessness. Not stinginess.
