News flying on social media suggests that the leading People’s Democratic Party PDP candidate may have taken the step to dump the party, though where he’s headed remains largely unknown.
The biggest confirmation has come from this letter said to have been sent to Peter Obi’s ward chairman on the 20th of May 2022. The fact that Oseloka Obaze put it out on his verified handle means that it is authentic.
I hereby confirm that @PeterObi has resigned from PDP. pic.twitter.com/FAFiCZOmnf

Nefertiti on Twitter is a handle that is largely known for expressing the heartbeat of the Peter Obi campaign.
Peter Obi has finally dumped the PDP. He has pulled out of their presidential primaries as well. While we wait the big announcement, this is good for his candidacy. Contesting on the platform of an ‘untainted’ party will be a morale booster. The fire in us is unquenchable💪

If this move turns out to be irrevocable, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who put Peter Obi on his ticket four years ago would be highly relieved, even though he would have preferred to run again with Peter Obi on his ticket for effective attraction to the team.
A member of Peter Obi’s think tank and inner council is Doyin Okupe who has been in Politics since the beginning of this third republic and only recently decried the menace of transactional politics.
He tweeted:
As I write this piece, a delegate election to elect the state assembly member for my local government is underway. Information reaching me from the venue is that one of the two contestant is offering N200,000 per delegate while the other has offered N150,000.

Peter Obi’s campaign may go on to resemble French President Emmanuel Macron’s campaign that formally ended the presence of the old political parties in that country.

Macron led a new coalition in the campaign and swept the polls. Peter Obi may be headed that way and he has been urging Nigerians, especially the youths to go and register so as to change the status quo.

This move will undoubtedly alter political equations in the country.
