Labour Party and it’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The coast now seems clear as the major challenge of a faction to Peter Obi’s candidature of Labour Party has written to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC as well as the leadership of Labour Party, withdrawing from the presidential contest.

I’m addition, the subsisting court case instituted against Obi’s emergence has also been withdrawn.

Moreover, The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has ratified the Labour Party’s leadership structure, recognising officials loyal to presidential candidate Peter Obi.

A peep into INEC’s official website reveals Julius Abure and Umar Farouk as the recognised Labour Party’s national chairman and secretary, with Akingbade Oyelakin as the national legal adviser.

A former deputy national chairman of the party, Calistus Okafor, claiming to be the party’s chair, had sued Messrs Abure, Farouk and Oyelakin, declaring their leadership illegal. But the defendants insisted they were elected chairman and secretary at a party conference in Benin in March 2021.

Last week, Mr Okafor was said to have filed an ex parte application praying the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court to declare him the lawful chairman of the party.

A letter he has now written to INEC and other relevant stakeholders supersedes the previous actions taken.

Mr Okafor supports Peter Obi as the presidential aspirant.

He described him as “a man of integrity,” affirmed “to be the presidential candidate of the Labour Party come 2023.”

Meanwhile, Sampson Charles Uchenna has also written to withdraw the instituted court case keeping the coast clear for Peter Obi.

“Let it be known that Peter Obi is an Igbo elder statesman and also my elder brother whom I respect and admire.

I will never do anything to deny our people of Igbo heritage the opportunity to Produce a president of Nigeria”, writes Sampson Uchenna Charles in a Press release that The Oasis Reporters received which is enclosed here.

Erstwhile  factional presidential candidate of Labour Party, Amb. Sir Jude Ezenwanfor (KSJI) has also written to the national chairman of Labour Party, “withdrawing from the forthcoming Presidential Election in 2023, after consulting” his supporters nationwide, thus “withdrawing from the election for personal reasons”.
