The crashed military helicopter carrying Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

The truth of what Nigeria’s soldiers fighting in the North East about decrepit equipment in online videos they stubbornly posted in the media has been forcefully brought to the immediate consciousness of Nigerians when news broke that the military helicopter the country’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo was flying in crash landed at Kabba, Kogi State where he had gone for a campaign.

Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo narrowly escaped death in the Kabba, Kogi State crash on Saturday.

The propeller of the chopper was said to have broken off close to a field in the town, causing the helicopter to crash-land.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo arrives at the 70th Anniversary of the University of Ibadan foundation ceremony.

Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Mr Laolu Akande, confirmed the accident via Twitter.

He, however, disclosed that the nation’s number two man and his aides came out of the crashed helicopter unhurt.

The PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar has expressed his concern over the chopper crash.

Akande added that Prof. Osinbajo has continued his engagements in Kogi State despite the crash.

Soldiers had complained that they were ambushed and killed in numbers at Metele and also at Baga by ragtag Boko Haram Islamist insurgents because most of the equipment they fight with are outdated and would not fire adequately against the enemy when under attack by the Insurgents.

It is therefore little surprise that carelessness may have crept into the air force maintenance crew or else, how come it wasn’t noticed that the propeller of the chopper which was said to have broken off was not detected to have been distressed and not fit enough to carry the nation’s number two citizen to nearby Kogi State from Abuja in safety ?

Whatever is the status of the One billion dollars voted by the National Assembly for the purchase and maintenance of military equipment should be made known. Rules should be expedited to ensure that the money is quickly appropriated and all the military equipment, helicopters, gunships etc are put in good shape to give the country it’s rightful place as a power in the subregion. This is one crash too many of military equipment both in the air and on land.

Meanwhile, congratulations, Nigerians, as thousands of Christians would join the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Sunday to give thanks to Almighty God for rescuing the Nation’s Vice President, Redeemed Church Senior pastor, Prof Osinbajo from the unfortunate crash.
