PSC Sets Monitoring Team To Check Officers Conduct During Election

The authorities of the Police Service Commission, PSC has commenced the trainings and sensitization of men and Officers of the Nigeria Police Force towards ensuring that they conduct themselves in an orderly manner during the forthcoming general elections in the country.

The Commission says the sensitization which is going on simultaneously in all the states of the federation, will start of the 21st day of January 2019 with fifty officers each in all the six geo-political zones and then down the ladder.

The Hon. Commissioner representing Human Rights, North Central Zone, of the Police Service Commission, Rommy Mom disclosed this while addressing journalists and top police officers at the Police Officers Mess in Jos.

He said says the Commission is mindful of the importance attached to the elections and it’s critical attachment to the survival of Nigeria, saying it is in this wise that the commission is sensitizing and retraining her officers to support and ensure that the election is free, fair and credible.

According to him, the commission will set up a team to checkmate the conduct of the police officers during the elections, stressing that hot lines would also be shared to the public to be enable them report any officer trying to cause apprehension.

“We are investing heavily in this election because it is the soul of Nigeria, and we are doing that to build confidence in the minds of the people.

“We will build synergy with other security agencies to ensure that the election is free and fair, and we will use the previous elections including that of Ekiti as a survey to make the 2019 election better.

“We are going to monitor the conduct of our officers all the days of the elections and those trying to cause apprehension would be arrested and prosecuted.

“We will distribute hot lines to the public to enable them call us free of charge and report any officer, let them not generalise but use the name tag and service number of the officer and report to us and action would be taken immediately”.

He however commended the Plateau State Police Command for intensifying efforts toward the restoration of peace in the state and encourage them to step up efforts for the permanent return of peace in the state.

Earlier, the state Commissioner of Police, Austin Agbonlahor welcomed the officers of the Police Service Commission to the state to create awareness for the officers and men of the police in the state, and pledge their unalloyed cooperation.
