Waste disposal operators in Osun State have asked Gov.Rauf Aregbesola, the Governor – elect, Alhaji Isiaka Oyetola and the good people of the state to hold the General Manager of the Osun State State Waste Management Agency accountable for the growing heaps of refuse in the nooks and crannies of major towns and cities across the State responsible.
The waste disposal operators who are grouped by government as Private Sector Partnership (PSP) believe that Mr.Oyeladun who doubles as Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment should be honourable enough to accept responsibility for his actions and inaction in office instead of passing the buck and.giving the dog a bad name, all in a bid to perpetuate himself in office.
The waste disposal operators, at an emergency meeting convened to deliberate on urgent issues of concern including the recent statement credited to Mr. Oyeladun in a press interview blaming the PSP for the growing heaps of refuse in the nooks and crannies of the State berated Mr.Oyeladun for the statement which they described as diversionary and absolved their group of any blame.
Rising from the meeting, the waste disposal operators disclosed that “as a matter of fact, there are not enough waste disposal trucks in the State as almost all the ones purportedly imported by government from China have broken down and off the road while the very few ones are epileptic contrary to claims by the duo of the former Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Mr.Bola Ilori and his stooge that all the imported waste disposal truck are functioning well.
“Osun State is in dire need of quality garbage trucks that are not too difficult to maintain. The present ugly situation is compounded by the deteriorating condition of the open lorries which many of the PSP had to improvise with to dispose waste off”.
According to the waste disposal operators, “the present problem can not be divorced from Mr.Oyeladun’s I-Know-It-All attitude and his insensitivity to persistent complaints by the PSP on the substandard waste disposal trucks, on the lack of spare parts for the truck as well as failure on the part of the suppliers of the truck to fulfil their promise to construct a standard workshop for regular maintenance of the trucks”.
“Already, an Osogbo High Court has given judgement in favour of two of our members in respect of the issues while related cases are pending in court. The waste disposal operators challenged Mr.Oyeladun to tell the public the condition of about ten of the imported garbage trucks earmarked by the Agency for use as back up in times of need like this.
“Where are the trucks?
He should also tell the public while another ten of the garbage trucks are rotting away in a government facility at Abere since the last five to six years not minding the economic implications.
The public also deserve information on the bigger trash compactor lorries inherited from the past Oyinlola administration and why not repair the trucks to increase the fleet?”
On Mr. Oyeladun’s threat to sack the PSP members and to substitute them with new ones, the waste disposal operators said it was the GM’s usual style to intimidate people under him.
The waste disposal operators have however congratulated Alhaji Isiaka Oyetola on his election as Governor of the State and have wished him a successful tenure just as they have assured him of their cooperation and support in piloting the affairs of the State.
They also congratulated the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdulrasheed Olabomi and his people for being alive to witness the election of their son as Governor.
