When former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso asserted that the north will not vote for an Igbo man, I cast my mind back to a reality up to 1959 and beyond when brilliant and qualified black (negroes) candidates were flatly denied the opportunity to study medicine in the United States of America. Just 63 years ago today.

A few years ago, more than half of graduands at Howard University’s faculty of medicine’s Pharmacy Dept were mainly Nigerians from the south east, graduating with high honours.

Emory University letter denying an African American candidate admission. They even returned the application fee he paid as well.

The reality is that today, American and other Western nations throng Nigerian medical schools seeking to recruit doctors enmass to work in hospitals abroad. That is a massive change in perception. The erstwhile status quo has been broken.

That nature of reality is staring at the professional politicians in the north, and it’s in their face. The Fulani politicians especially who dominate the political landscape of the north using unworkable indices are jittery. They seem fearful that their previous status of serving with monumental lack of distinction by under developing Nigeria, is coming to an end.

Arise news Television asked Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi to respond to the comment made by Rabiu Kwakwanso that the north will not vote for an Igbo man in 2023.

Hear Mr. Peter Obi:

“The comment by my elder brother, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is the reason why we have 100 million Nigerians living in poverty, 18 million Nigerian children out of school and about 52% of Nigerians are either unemployed or under employed, because rather than vote for competent leaders, we will rather vote for incompetence due to a primitive belief of religion and ethnicity. Tell me, today you can’t travel from Abuja to Kaduna by road or rail , is it because someone from the south east is in charge?

“You can’t travel to Minna by road , is it because someone from the south east is in charge ?

“Yesterday we had an attack by bandits on the presidential convoy, in Katsina, is it because someone from the south east is in charge?

“Show me where people are prospering in the north or south ?

“What we have consistently done in this country is to hire vehicle drivers to fly airplanes as pilots instead of hIring qualified pilots.

“We have a huge problem and if you don’t know, this country will soon default on their debt servicing , schools are shut down , insecurity is everywhere , Nigeria is in a coma and when you are in Coma all you want is to survive, irrespective of where the surgeon who will keep you alive comes from “.
