Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara smiles in victory over the local government election wins as the party he supports makes a clean sweep of virtually all positions declared so far.

Out of the 23 local government areas in Rivers State, local government election results have been declared in 22 of them .

In declaring the results, the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission Chairman, Justice Adolphus Enebeli announced that the results of Etche local government were still being collated.

Justice Enebeli also declared the election as the most transparent and peaceful election in the history of the state in a very long time.

The newly cobbled All People’s Party that backed the governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara made a clean sweep of all the declared Chairmanship positions, leaving the once dominant People’s Democratic Party (PDP) under a toxic grip of former governor, Nyesom Wike in the cold.

Wike had been locked in a vice grip for the control of the party and this has seemingly torn the party apart with his stranglehold on its levers currently dismembered.

For the first time since 1999 when the current Republic came into being in the country, this is the first time that another party is taking over the reins in Rivers State.

Commentators on Rivers State affairs point to the toxic grip of Nyesom Wike who wanted to make himself a godfather in the state, an anathema of a concept to the freedom loving people of the state.
