The opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) party in Plateau State has kicked against the suspension and planned further investigation of the 17 Local Government Council chairmen in the State as announced by Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
The party, through its State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Sylvanus Namang stated this during a press conference held at the APC Secretariat in Jos, the state capital,
Namang has alleged that the new governor has been hijacked by some powerful persons, hence he could not live up to his words of running an all inclusive government in the State.
According to him, “It is against this background and many more that the APC in the state unequivocally calls for the immediate reinstatement of the elected local government chairmen in the 17 Local Government councils of the State.
“The reason stated for their suspension, under whatever guise, is absolutely not tenable as it is nothing but the perpetuation of illegality.
“If the pressure or whatever reason for the unprovoked action by the governor are coming from the locusts who want to feast on the finances of these local governments, such should not be at the expense of the larger interest of the State,” he stated.
The party described the suspension of the Local Government chairmen as “executive recklessness that can set political instability in motion in the state.
“We are constrained to address this Press Conference to condemn in its totality, the controversial issues involved in the purported action of both the Governor and the Plateau State House of Assembly which smacks of executive recklessness by disregarding constitutional and legislative procedures,” he stated.
He further condemned the action taken by the governor that led to the suspension of the 17 local government chairmen in the state, tagging it baseless, an action that can lead to political instability in the state.
