One of Nigeria’s biggest five banks, Access Bank Plc has won Customer Relations Bank of the Year award at the Online Reporters Association of Nigeria (ORAN) anniversary, held at City People Ballroom, Gbagada Lagos on Thursday 2nd December, 2021.

The media societies marked its second anniversary with a workshop on the topic, How Online Reporting Affects Governance, Judiciary and Financial Institutions.

Speaking at the occasion, Barrister Ife Ajayi who represented Barrister Monday Ubani, Principal Partner, Ubani & Co Chambers emphasized the need on how online reporters should carry on their day to day activities with due diligence.

“ It is true the world has become a global village. Even at that, the true journalism ethics must come into play for journalists need to balance their stories. This will help you on libelous stories in the event of petitions or legal challenges.

Even at the courts, it is very challenging to reference online publication stories while filing a case. Online journalists still need to do more on integrity. This kind of forum should continue to educate more online reporters on daily reporting ethics”, Barrister Ife Ajayi said.

Head, Corporate Communications and Marketing, Access Bank, Abdul Imoyo praised ORAN for it’s diligent work on educating members in writing reports, as
unconfirmed or ‘fake news’ without checks and balances can be injurious.

“ We need to continue the fight against fake news. Several organizations have lost a lot of businesses as a result of fake or unconfirmed news. Someone who wants to post or publish sensitive stories should first confirm before publication“, Imoyo added.

ORAN patron , Publisher City People Media Group, Dr. Seye Kehinde also  spoke on the need for media practitioners to improve on their skills and report only the truth at all times.

He later presented the ORAN Customer Relations Bank of the Year award to Access Bank Plc. Mr Abdul Imoyo received the award on behalf of the Tier-1 financial institution.
