Asaba CAA: Tobilola Amusa Gives Nigeria Its First Gold Medal Win

Nigerian female hurdler and Commonwealth Games gold medalist, Tobilola Amusa has won the first gold medal in the 100 metres female hurdles in the on-going 21st African Senior Athletics Championship taking place in Asaba.
Amusa by the feat, becomes the first Nigerian athlete to win a gold medal at the championship that attracted about 52 countries in participation.
Amusa won with a time of 12.86 seconds beating South African and Cote d ivoirean runners to second and third place respectively.
In the final of the 100 metres female race, Nigeria’s runner Mercy Obong placed 3rd behind the winner from Cote d ivoire and 2nd place winner from Ghana.
Meanwhile Nigeria increased her medals haul yesterday, Thursday 2nd August, as Chukwuebuka Enekwechi won another gold for Nigeria in the men’s shot put as Udoh-Gabriel Joy also won another bronze medal in the women’s 100 meters race with 11.58 secs and Ogunrinde Temilola giving Nigeria a Silver in Hammer throw with 67.39 meters to increase the medal haul for Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the organizers of the event had announced that one of the innovations at the 2018 CAA Asaba is the introduction of cash prize for every female winner.
This is the first time cash rewards will be given to athletes who win gold since the history of the championship.
