ASUU To FG: ‘No Further Meetings With You, Until You Respond To Our Proposals’

Education Minister, Adamu (left), ASUU President, Biodun Ogunyemi (right). Heady days seem ahead for the two sides.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, seems to be digging in for the long cold haul of strike going by the cold shoulder they just gave the Federal government.

Speaking with Channels Television, ASUU President, Biodun Ogunyemi disclosed that the union submitted a proposal to the federal government and has not received a reply from them.
Therefore, unless the Federal government responds to their earlier proposals, no dialogue would hold between the two sides.

He maintained that ASUU would only attend any subsequent meeting after it has received a reply from the Federal government and therefore shunned a meeting it was scheduled to have held with the government side on Tuesday to address contentious issues in an earlier agreement for which ASUU had been on strike.

Ogunyemi further stated that the body of university lecturers had met and discussed the new offer from the Federal Government, after which it submitted a proposal, but was yet to receive any response from the government.

While the strike action continues, students keep loitering about in their various campuses doing nothing tangible.
At the same time, the Non Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities are also revving up to commence their own strike action. Except in the University of Ilorin that traditionally does not join ASUU in it’s strike actions instead, preferring to maintain the integrity of it’s academic calendar .
