The National Coordinator/CEO of the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), Comrade Sheriff Mulade has commended the Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for the recent approval of two pedestrian bridges in Asaba the State Capital, which according to him was a right step in the right direction.
The foremost Peace and Environmental Justice advocate while making the commendation in his office yesterday, passionately appealed to the Governor to approve pedestrian bridges at the Petroleum Training Institute, PTI junction and Effurun Roundabout respectively.
Comrade Mulade expressed the difficulties that pedestrians contend with when they attempt to cross the highways on either side of the road. According to him, “It is always a pitiable sight to see both the young and old trying to cross on their way to school or work in the mornings and in the evenings when they are coming back”.
The National Coordinator lamented that a lot of accidents involving loss of lives and property caused mainly by pedestrians crossing the highways at the PTI junction and Effurun Roundabout have been recorded.
“These highways are very busy roads at all times and to save people from endangering their lives in attempting to cross these roads, I am appealing to the Delta State Government to construct a pedestrian bridge at these busy spots”.
Comrade Mulade believes that building pedestrian bridges in such busy places will drastically reduce the carnage caused by motor accidents in the twin cities of Effurun and Warri. He stated passionately; ‘The earlier the Delta State Government heed to this advice the better for road users.’
