Osita Chidoka, a governorship aspirant has announced his bid for the Anambra Government House, Awka

As the campaign for the Anambra Government House, Awka heats up, Osita Chidoka running on the platform of the United Progressive Party (UPP) has welcomed the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) into the fray.

He should, for PDP was his home where he had a distinguished career as former Aviation Minister under president Goodluck Jonathan in the previous administration.

Crisis engulfed the party at the highest level as it got embroiled in a leadership tussle between two factions, PDP (Makarfi) and PDP (Sheriff).

Well, all that has ended with the Supreme Court verdict on the 12th of July 2017, with nod to Ahmed Makarfi, who is now the authentic chairman of the party.

But before then, Chidoka had already picked up the UPP ticket, and he has a word or two for the PDP in a Press Statement made available to theoasisreporters.com :

“We welcome Wednesday’s verdict of the Supreme Court, which we believe, has ended the leadership tussle that confronted the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

While we sincerely congratulate the PDP for this development, we do hope that this time around, they will leverage on the opportunity to present their best to face the people in the November 18, 2017 Anambra governorship election”.

He went on to say, that “We in the United Progressive Party (UPP) have already started our preparations and we are working hard to ensure that we present our best for the election because ndi Anambra deserve only the best.

Already, the UPP has proven to be one political platform that can deliver the wishes and aspirations of the Anambra people; a fact that informs it’s soaring grassroot popularity in all the electoral wards across Anambra state, as the platform that genuinely offers them a voice and where their interests only, drive the policies and ideology of the party”.

Anambra State has had an intriguing and chequered relationship with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) which once governed the State at the dawn of this Republic in 1999. Amidst allegations of vote rigging and godfather impositions, the apex court nullified the victory of it’s governorship candidate, Chris Ngige, a physician and installed the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) , Mr. Peter Obi who gave a sterling and distinguished service making Anambra viable economically.

After two terms in office, Mr. Obi left, but rather than stay in the party, he moved over to the PDP and became Director General of the Goodluck Jonathan Reelection Campaign Organization while Chris Ngige crossed over to the All Progressives Congress where he currently serves as a senator.

While APGA still has a sitting governor as it’s reelection candidate, Gov. Willie Obiano has a tough challenge ahead of him as the UPP and the PDP seem to have formidable challengers, and in the underbelly is the sharp knife of the separatist agitations for an exit of the south eastern states from Nigeria into a new nation to be called Biafra.

The agenda is championed by Nnamdi Kanu who wants an electoral boycott, making it a no easy time for the entire State.

Chances are that elections would still hold as all major stakeholders agree so.

Besides, some prominent Anambra people seem to be calling to question the service of Obiano, which the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) has equally carpeted for being anti people.

Interesting times indeed lay ahead for the flagship of the Igbo States, Anambra 2017.

PRESS RELEASE

S/Court Verdict: ‘We Want The Best For Anambra’- Chidoka

We welcome Wednesday’s verdict of the Supreme Court, which we believe, has ended the leadership tussle that confronted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

While we sincerely congratulate the PDP for this development, we do hope that this time around, they will leverage on the opportunity to present their best to face the people in the November 18, 2017 Anambra governorship election.

We in the United Progressive Party (UPP) have already started our preparations and we are working hard to ensure that we present our best for the election because ndi Anambra deserve only the best.

Already, the UPP has proven to be one political platform that can deliver the wishes and aspirations of the Anambra people; a fact that informs its soaring grassroot popularity in all the electoral wards across Anambra state, as the platform that genuinely offers them a voice and where their interests only, drive the policies and ideology of the party.

The time has therefore come for the political class to jettison all unnecessary anti-people and selfishly motivated political crisis and focus only on presenting credible options for the people to make their choice in the election.

It is on this note that we in the UPP are desirous of a clean, robust and issue-based contest that affords the citizens the opportunity to make informed decisions at the polls. In this election, the verdict lies solely with the people; every political party must therefore work hard to present its best and brightest to face the electorate at the polls.
