Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, addressing supporters, during PDP’s campaign rally in Ward, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, on Thursday, August 13, 2020.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and his campaign train were on Wednesday ambushed and attacked by hoodlums stationed in Ward 10, Apana, Uzairue, Etsako West Local Government Area, where the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, hails from.

The governor and his supporters were headed to Ward 10, Apana, Uzairue, when it was reported that thugs had invaded the campaign venue, attacking villagers and other supporters who had converged to receive the governor and his team.

An eye-witness, who pleaded anonymity, said the women in the ward refused to vacate the canopies they were seated under, daring the thugs to do their worst, as they were ready to receive the governor whenever he arrived at the venue.

It took the intervention of the security operatives attached to the governor to chase the thugs after a heady 5-minute gun duel.

With the repelling of the thugs, the governor and his team entered the community with wild applause, as the campaign train continued unhindered.
