Electronic Media Personality, Segun Onibiyo, Arrested By Police In Kaduna For Hate Speech

Indications are emerging that a Radio/ Television journalist and social media activist in Kaduna, North West Nigeria, Mr. Segun Onibiyo, popularly known as SMG was arrested by security operatives this morning.

According to Henry Onibiyo, a spokesman for his family, Segun Onibiyo is being accused of hate speech over a post he was alleged to have made on his Facebook account that was said to be un-complementary to the government.

In his preliminary defense, he told the police that his account had been hacked, hence he migrated to another Facebook account.

He is currently being held at the Kaduna Central prisons on remand, pending when he would be charged to court on Tuesday.

“Mr. Onibiyo, a social media influencer and a critic of the APC administration was allegedly arrested on the orders of Governor El Rufai for criticizing President Muhammadu Buhari on the social media”, according to a source in Kaduna.

Segun Onibiyo is described as a Media Strategist, Media Contents Developer, Broadcaster and Voice Over Specialist.
