Embattled Iyorchia Ayu Finally Quits, As PDP Appoints New National Chairman For The Party

In the aftermath of the suspension of Iyorchia Ayu by his ward in Benue state from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the pronouncement of a court, the National Working Committee of the Party has announced the appointment of Amb. Umar Ililya Damagum as its new National Chairman.
the NWC resolved that the Deputy National Chairman (North) His Excellency, Amb. Umar Ililya Damagum assumes the National Chairmanship of our Party in acting capacity with effect from today, Tuesday, March 28, 2023.

This was sequel to a pronouncement by a Benue State High Court ordering Senator Iyorchia Ayu to quit parading himself as the National Chairman of the Party.
Amb Damagum, the Deputy National Chairman of the Party (North), has been approved to assume the office of the national chairman in an acting capacity.
The Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba made this known in a statement made available to the media in Abuja on Tuesday.

PDP NWC Appoints Amb. Damagum as Acting National Chairman
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at an emergency meeting today, Tuesday, March 28, 2023 acknowledges the Order of the Benue State High Court, dated March 27, 2023 with regards to the Chairmanship position of our great Party.
After careful consideration of the Court Order and in line with Section 45 (2) of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017), the NWC resolved that the Deputy National Chairman (North) His Excellency, Amb. Umar Ililya Damagum assumes the National Chairmanship of our Party in an acting capacity with effect from today, Tuesday, March 28, 2023.
The NWC charges all leaders, critical stakeholders, teeming members and supporters of our great Party to remain calm and united at this critical time.
