…As Orashi Electricity Company Is Inaugurated
By Ambrose Nwaogwugwu
In the race to maximize the liberalized law on electricity generation and distribution towards enhanced productive manufacturing business as well as living conditions, Abia State drew the first cut by inaugurating the Geometric Power Authority which lights up parts of Aba City 24/7 for enhanced living and business conditions that has won nationwide acclaim as a positive move from Nigeria’s deeply perennial darkness.
As the electric switches are turned on in Aba, Abia state, neighbouring Imo state was seeing the light and as it reflected, Imo State governor, Hope Uzodimma quietly pointed his fingers and said, ‘we shall not be left alone in darkness’.
Therefore, in a landmark move, the governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma CON, quickly decided to approve a whopping $200 million investment for the provision of 24/7 electricity supply in Imo State.
There’s one thing about the two states, Imo and Abia. They used to be one state, before the Nigerian military then in government, split the one state called Imo into two states. Therefore if attractive 247 electricity was going to be available in some parts of Abia state, Imo state needed to have it’s own.
Thus Orashi Electricity was born.
Imo state itself used to be one state with Anambra, then called East Central State before the then General Murtala Mohammed’s military government split it into Imo State and Anambra state.
It was such that when Murtala Mohammed died in office, a musical band called Oriental Brothers International rushed out a musical album to eulogize the late general for being the one who created Anambra and Imo States. This was further split, and Imo became two states, Imo and Abia.
The electricity in Imo state will be made possible without spending a dime from the state’s coffers or borrowing a penny, according to the draft intention.
This impressive feat is being made possible through a strategic partnership with the Madkour Group from Egypt, who will provide the necessary funding, expertise and support in a strategic partnership with the government of Imo State.
The establishment of the Imo State Electricity Regulatory Commission is a critical component of this groundbreaking initiative.
This commission will oversee the regulation of Orashi Electricity Company, ensuring that the electricity supply is not only constant but also meets the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
The benefits of this project are multifaceted. Firstly, it will provide a reliable source of electricity, powering homes, businesses, and industries, thereby boosting economic growth and development.
Secondly, it will create jobs and stimulate innovation, as entrepreneurs and investors take advantage of the stable electricity supply.
Finally, it will improve the overall quality of life for citizens, enabling them to enjoy the comforts of modern living with efficient and cost effective constant electricity supply.
The Imo State Electricity Regulatory Commission which was also inaugurated a few days ago will play a vital role in ensuring that the electricity supply is not only constant but also affordable and accessible to all. By regulating Orashi Electricity Company, the commission will prevent exploitation and ensure that the company operates in the best interests of the people.
In conclusion, the establishment of the Imo State Electricity Regulatory Commission and the approval of $200 million non committal investment for 24/7 electricity supply are testaments to Governor Uzodimma’s vision and leadership.
This great and laudable project has the potential to transform Imo State into a model for sustainable development and economic growth, and the governor must be commended for his foresight and courage.
