In telling Bello Matawalle to go and work for Zamfara State, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the February 23, 2019 contentious Presidential election Mr. Peter Obi was expressing his nostalgia, because he has been through that route of recovering a mandate via the instrumentality of the law courts. His fate was even worse, because there was still the State House of Assembly that remained antagonist to his victory and was still under the thumb of godfathers.
Bello Matawalle has it a little bit softer and easier, where Peter Oni’s expensive victory was rockier and hilly. The entire Zamfara State House of Assembly is almost hundred percent PDP like Matawalle.
Peter Obi has urged the victorious gubernatorial candidate of the party in Zamfara state Alhaji Bello Mohammad Matawelle and national and state legislators from the state to
see their victory as a challenge to work and to uplift their state.
And uplifting the State from the morass and depression of deaths, insurgency, poverty and ignorance is the crux of the matter. This is an area that Peter Obi has shown incredible dexterity and ability in Anambra State when he was faced with a similar scenario. And this is why the feeling is strong that if Matawalle needs an honorary adviser on state matters, the man to is Peter Obi. One Zamfara lady, Kadaria Ahmed who has done extensive background research on Obi can easily tell him so.
“God must have a reason why it has to be Matawalle that should take the mandate of the people of the embattled state now”, Obi said in his message to the governor elect.
He said in a statement from his media office in Abuja on Saturday that the fallout from Zamfara state should teach politicians a lesson that God has the final say on who gets what position.
The former Governor of Anambra state told the victorious Zamfara state leaders that the security situation of the state at this time throws up a huge challenge to them to go and resolve.
Obi said that being a beneficiary of rule of law they should do everything while in the office to uphold the sanctity of the judiciary as critical component in a democracy.
He also has some words of commendation for the Judiciary for always being there to right the wrong of politicians which is why the system created separation of power.
Obi finally urged politicians to see the fallout from Zamfara as a reason to believe in the supremacy of God in all their political position.
Something says that Obi can give enormous help to Matawalle, to help raise and groom another set of young leadership, not the type that use outward religiosity to mislead the people and take them into unmitigated poverty, strife and death like its former leaders have recklessly done.
