Press Release
The Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, has described the recent comments of the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, on the state of security in the country as unfortunate.
The governor, who was fielding questions from newsmen at an investment meeting in Abuja, May 22, aired on BBC Today, said “the security problem faced by our Nation is a small problem exaggerated by the media”
The PDP wishes to remind the governor that there can never be any meaningful economic activity without political stability. It is regrettable that governor El-Rufai would describe the quantum of security challenges faced by our Nation as a small issue that doesn’t require publicity by the media.
Scores of People are being killed and maimed by the day without government’s serious intervention. Armed robbery and Kidnappings have become the order of the day.
The PDP wonders why El-Rufai will go as far as Niger and Mali to pay compensations to terrorists, instead of handing them over to the Police for arrests and prosecution. No wonder, the terrorists have intensified their criminal campaigns across the country unperturbed, using the money he paid them as compensation to acquire more sophisticated weapons.
It is not surprising that the governor would make such statements, though, owing to the fact that it is the APC’s stock in trade to dish out careless statements as this without scruples.
Promotion of deliberate falsehood ,propaganda and lies has become the APC ‘s style of governance, with no meaningful development to show .
It is on record that killings and kidnappings have become a recurring decimal in Kaduna State. Hundreds of people have been killed in Birnin Gwari in the last one month . Only yesterday another set of people were murdered in cold blood at Ungwan Gideh/Jura, Igabi Local Government.
Some other people were killed in Giwa Local Government Area, not to mention the killings in Southern Kaduna, Agatu,Benue State, Plateau, Taraba, Zamfara and Yobe States .
Boko Haram has continued with their onslaught unabated, even with the government’s declaration of “technically defeating” the Boko Haram in Borno State.
All the rising increase in crime rate is as a result of hunger, the APC – led government has brought to our society due the sacking of civil servants and the lack of clear cut economic policies that would bring economic development to our Nation, and this has made so many businesses to fold up, causing the loss of over 4 million jobs in all the three years of APC maladministration.
We call on the APC government to be more proactive in their management of security issues, so as to make Kaduna State and Nigeria a safe haven for business activities to thrive.
