NHRC Boss Seeks Partnership With NUJ Kaduna Chapter To Fight Human Rights Abuses

National Human Rights Commission, (NHRC) in Kaduna state has solicited the support of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to tackle issues of human rights abuses in the state.

The Coordinator of the commission, Mr Terngu Gwar made this known during a courtesy visit to the Kaduna State Chapter of the NUJ in Kaduna state, Northwest, Nigeria

He explained that the commission is saddled with the responsibility of promoting peace and the protection of Human Rights and properties

Mr Gwar added that “human rights issues are not given the right attention especially to the vulnerable that is why we are soliciting the assistance of the media to raise awareness so that people can access their rights.”

He stressed that issues of girl child education remains paramount on the platform of the commission as they are doing all they can to curb the rising tide of girl child drop out rate from educational institutions, the issue of rape and hawking amongst others in the state as it affects the girl child.

Responding, Chairman of the Kaduna State chapter of the NUJ, Comrade Adamu Yusuf called on the media to be involved in investigative journalism as it will help in bringing down the tide of rights abuses.

He added that journalists must sensitize the public on the dangers of human rights abuses as such is the only parameter to build an egalitarian society.

He equally said that most people in the state do not know their rights due to lack of information as he called for continued synergy with the commission to intensify awareness.
