A month ahead of the start of Nigeria’s presidential electioneering campaigns in Africa’s largest democracy, The Oasis Reporters has commenced a walk around some selected parts of the nation, viewing the foot walk before elections commence.

At Ondo State, we noticed billboards announcing the candidacy of Adewole Adebayo, especially in some parts of Ondo and Akure towns.

The associates of Adewole Adebayo, Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate say that Nigeria stands the chance to learn from the rich intellectual prowess and assess his capacity if he meets “our demand for president at this time that Nigerians are crying for wounds to heal in the country”.

As he seems to be making his presence felt in other states beyond Ondo State, what surprised us was his presence in a semi-urban town called Oleh, political headquarters of the Isoko nation in Delta State.

There’s an appreciable presence of Social Democratic Party stalwarts in Isoko land.

The billboards there and in other parts of Delta State also announce Kenneth Gbagi, who until recently was a frontliner for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial election ticket in the oil rich State. As he was elbowed out, according to him rather unfairly and with threats, he quietly made his way into SDP, the same party that produced Chief MKO Abiola on June 12, 1993.

Nigerians are watching the inroads Adewole Adebayo would make in the coming election, as a youth who has age on his side.

Adebayo would be on Africa Independent Television (AIT). The program is AIT Focus Nigeria, discussing the State Of The Nation at 10.00am on August 9.
