Nigeria has a case of comparative analysis between two Aviation ministers. In the All Progressive Congress, APC campaign promise early 2015 was to revive the moribund Nigeria Airways with some of the aircraft requisitioned from the presidential fleet.
There was some fanfare as plans were announced that the inauguration of the new Air Nigeria was afloat. Figures like 1.2 billion naira was alleged to have been committed into the project, although unconfirmed. It turned out that no aeroplane from the presidential fleet joined the project and in the end after spending such humongous amount, the entire project was aborted.
The Aviation minister, Hadi Sirika announced the suspension of the project. Yet he remains in office, he being a relation of the president.
The same was not the case with the Aviation minister Stella Oduah under former president Goodluck Jonathan in 2013 who did a fantastic job, upgrading the nation’s airports such that many more like the Enugu airport started receiving wide bodied aircraft from international destinations.
Accused of spending N225 million on the purchase of bullet proof cars for the ministry, the then opposition made so much noise that forced Stella Oduah out of office. They are today in government, but silent on the aviation debacle, barely five years after
