Nigeria Powers Into The EV Transportation Revolution, Offering A New Ray Of Hope For Movement Despite Patchy Electricity

Today is a very special day at Living Faith Church, Ota Ogun State for as the Church doors open for an end of the month Thanksgiving Service, which incidentally is the day of celebrating the birthday of the iconic head of the global church, Bishop David Oyedepo.
The buses that would be conveying worshippers into the premises of Canaan Land where the headquarters of the church is, would be new Eco friendly EV buses. About 40 of them are already lined up for transportation this morning.
What it would further signal is a showcase of what Nigeria can be, with all things being equal under committed leadership.
Canaan Land was deliberately built by the leadership of the Church as a non chaotic city where things are meant to run efficiently.
Canaan Land also houses Covenant University in it’s premises, and it is an institution owned by Living Faith Church, World wide, led by Bishop David Oyedepo.
While the rest of Nigeria struggles with endless darkness, including the rest of government Universities, Covenant University has power supply, 24/7, almost uninterrupted as if one is in Europe and not in Nigeria.
With electric power running 24/7 while the rest of the country struggles with power supply, the next best move seemed to indicate the scaling down of transportation costs with the introduction of EV buses, and this has been achieved today.
Nigeria that has run for decades without functional refineries, making Africa’s largest nation in terms of population to depend on subsidy and the importation of petrol suddenly received a shock as soon as Mohammadu Buhari handed over the reins of power to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The new president wasted no time before announcing that the petrol subsidy regime was gone with the old regime, and Nigerians were going to buy petrol at the going rate within the Nigerian context.
The new private refinery that was undergoing construction for about two decades, owned by Africa’s richest billionaire, Aliko Dangote, who saw an opportunity of refining in the country that is a net exporter of crude oil, while importing refined products like petrol, diesel and other derivatives of crude oil has already come on stream.
Despite the availability of petrol, the cost of transportation is still very high for a country where wages are low and the country is vast.
Therefore the introduction of Electric vehicles into transportation within Canaan Land is telling a powerful story to the larger Nigeria, and this statement is not being taken for granted.
Bishop David Oyedepo may have made the announcement about EV buses for Canaan Land long ago, a new company quickly jumped into the queue and started production.
The eco-friendly buses which are proudly manufactured and assembled in Nigeria by NEV Electric (in partnership with Possible EVs), featuring models like the NEV T6 electric bus, has further pointed it’s fingers to the direction that transportation should take in Nigeria.
The story the electric buses are telling is validating what a writer once said that electric buses shall out sell conventional buses shortly in the global economy.
