The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has commissioned a 5.62km streetlight project and connected more communities in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the state to the 95MW Ossiomo Power Project, as part of the light-up Edo project.

The governor was accompanied to the project’s commissioning by his wife, Betsy; the Chief of Staff, Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha; Special Adviser, Strategy, Policy, Projects, and Performance Management, Sarah Esangbedo Ajose-Adeogun, and other top government functionaries.

So much affection is rising for Godwin Obaseki all over the Niger Delta for skillfully understanding the real needs of his people in Edo State, and working hard to meet their expectations as a reciprocal gesture for voting him into office for his second tenure despite not having a godfather anymore at the time.

Many businesses are suffering throughout the Niger Delta due to an acute lack of electricity for production whereas the region is the main hub for oil and gas hub that powers the entire nation..

But Godwin Obaseki weaved through all the debilitating legislation to forge ahead and provide electricity for Edo State through the Independent Power Initiative his government set up.

Businesses in Edo State have little to worry about over power, as their expensive power generators that require petrol have been largely retired.

The PDP Chairman in Ikpoba-Okha, Pastor Paul Osazuwa, commended the governor’s life-changing projects in the area, noting, “You are one of the best governors that have governed Edo State. I urge you to continue to develop the State through the very many impactful projects you have embarked on that have improved the lives of the people. It’s a few days to the election; we will vote PDP from top to bottom to thank you for the projects.”

On his part, a community representative, Mr. Alex Aransowan Osamede, added, “We thank you, Mr. Governor for remembering and prioritizing us. We are happy with the way you did Lucky Way and Jemila Road, and now IPP and streetlight projects. You are a wonderful governor.”

Speaking on the project, the functioning Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Electricity, Engr. Victor Obanor said, “We are witnessing two projects namely, the Independent Power Project (IPP) from Ossiomo Power Plant and secondly, the streetlight project. The IPP is powering the streetlights.

“The extension of the IPP, 11KVA starts from Ring Road, Igun, Upper Igun, Murtala Mohammed Way, and Ewa Road Junction, extending all the way through to NABTEB where we are gathering today to light up the area.

“The second project is the Akpakpava streetlight which is from Ring Road to the roundabout of Ramat Park, measuring a total length of 5.67km. We urge residents in this area to please protect this project from vandalism; it’s your project.”
