When Barrister Rotimi Akeredolu leaves office as Governor of Ondo, the Sunshine State after his tour of duty, one man who would have a rich repertoire of fast paced events to write about in his memoirs would be Olabode Richard.
Governor Akeredolu had just named him his Chief Press Officer with effect from March 1, 2021.
While appointing Olabode Richard Olatunde as Chief Press Secretary, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu equally retained his Chief of Staff, Chief Olugbenga Ale.
This was contained in a statement issued in Akure and signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Research & Documentation, Kunle Adebayo.
The statement reads “As a key move to hit the ground running in service of the people in his second tenure, the Governor of Ondo State Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN has approved the appointment of Chief Olugbenga Ale as his Chief of Staff while Mr. Olabode Richard is appointed as Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor.
“Chief Olugbenga Ale is a retired permanent secretary of the Ondo state Civil Service while Mr Olabode Richard is a practicing broadcast Journalist .
“The two individuals served in Akeredolu’s first tenure as Chief of Staff and Special Assistant (New Media) respectively.
Adebayo said that ” the appointments takes immediate effect.
Many would say that Olabode Richard has earned those pips and would be better placed to write about the one time young man who went across the River Niger for his national youth service and came back home to his native Owo with a wife from Igbo speaking Imo state.
Akeredolu is Yoruba.
Olabode Richard is mounting the saddle for the governor’s second tenure after a superlative first term where he served as Special Assistant, and now as CPS to explain the words and deeds of the governor nicknamed ‘Aketi’ to a sceptical northern region and an adoring Western region including the applauding Eastern region, who all cheer a governor with gumption enough to face headlong, the very threatening but dreaded challenge of herdsmen militia that have encircled his state and region with rapid fire automatic weapons.
The outlaws in the bushes of Ondo have been issued a quit notice by the no-nonsense Governor who has defied his party and all who cower before a rampaging band of outlaws with their powerful backers in high places.
Olabode Richard would be explaining the man with the scent of a warrior who has only a state law backed Amotekun outfit to put the criminals who have been kidnapping, enslaving before Bishop Ajayi Crowther’s parents were born over 200 years ago. And now the descendants of the slavers now rape, kill, collect ransom from traumatized victims who can’t go to their farms out of fear, and thus be unable to feed their families.
