Performing Artists Gather At Ibadan Varsity For Bode Sowande At 70

Thespians gathered at the Theatre Arts auditorium, University of Ibadan, weekend from all over the south west of Nigeria. Their gathering was not to examine the
‘Ideological Mutations in the Drama of Bode Sowande’, as Ameh Dennis Akoh of the Osun State University would write about, it was to celebrate the man, Bode Sowande, a post soyinkan professor of Theatre arts.

And the question is, who is Bode Sowande?

Sowande had just clocked 70 and eminent professors in the theatre arts profession, historians, writers etc gathered to celebrate the jolly good fellow where it all started for him – at the premier University of Ibadan.

Bode Sowande was born on the 2nd of May in 1948. He is a Nigerian writer and dramatist, known for the ” theatrical aesthetic of his plays about humanism and social change”, so said Ameh Akoh.
Prof. Bode Sowande taught Theatre arts at the University of Ibadan, but left over twenty years ago.
He currently lectures at the Department of Performing Arts, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye,Ogun State in south west Nigeria.
