A new thought-leadership podcast, Policy Without Politics, has launched to deepen public understanding of the policies shaping economies, businesses, markets and everyday life.

Hosted by Mustafa Chike-Obi and Dr. Ken Ikpe, the weekly podcast is available on YouTube and invites viewers to subscribe for rigorous, non-partisan conversations on governance, public policy, development and the business environment.

Positioned as a platform for clear thinking without partisan noise, Policy Without Politics connects decisions made in capitals to their impact on companies, markets, citizens and communities, with global relevance grounded in an African context. Each episode explores the forces shaping trade, fiscal and monetary decisions, regulation, investment and development.

Speaking on the vision behind the podcast, Dr. Ken Ikpe said: “Policy touches every life, every business and every economy. Our goal is to make these conversations accessible, practical and useful, so that more people can understand how policy decisions translate into real outcomes.”

In the debut episode, Policy vs Implementation: Why Nigeria’s Good Ideas Keep Failing, the hosts examine one of Nigeria’s most persistent development questions: whether the country’s challenge is weak policy design, poor implementation, or a deeper failure of accountability and political will. The episode touches on fuel subsidy removal, electricity pricing, health insurance, education, IMF advice, telecoms, exchange rates and social safety nets.

In one of the episode’s striking interventions, Mustafa Chike-Obi challenges the idea that welfare spending can replace production, stating: “Charity is good, but you can only give charity when you have it. When you have limited resources, you must produce first, then be charitable later. Charity first never leads to production.”

Other episodes already produced extend the conversation into equally topical issues. In The Importance of an Economic Adviser in National Government, the hosts discuss why a strong and independent economic adviser is critical to national planning, policy coordination and long-term economic growth.

In Why Do African Teams Concede in the 86th Minute?, they use football as an entry point to examine sports policy, discipline, execution and the economic potential of sports as a serious business sector.

The introductory episode, Introducing PWP: Why Good Policy Fails to Change Lives, sets the tone for the podcast by exploring the gap between well-intentioned policy and lived reality.

The credibility of the podcast is strengthened by the pedigree of its hosts. Mustafa Chike-Obi is a respected financial services leader with over four decades of experience in investment banking and financial services. He was the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, AMCON, and has held senior roles in global financial institutions, including Goldman Sachs, Bear Stearns and Guggenheim Partners. He is a First Class Mathematics graduate of the University of Lagos and holds an MBA from Stanford University.

Dr. Ken Ikpe brings more than 30 years of experience in business leadership, advisory, brand management and advertising. He is a former Group CEO of Insight Redefini Group, described as the largest marketing communications and consumer consulting group in Sub-Saharan Africa, and holds a PhD in Development Economics from the Academy of Sciences, School of African Studies, Moscow. He is also associated with the School of Media and Communication, Pan Atlantic University, and is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Marketing and the advertising profession in Nigeria.

Commenting further, Mustafa Chike-Obi said: “We are not interested in politics for its own sake. We are interested in what works, why it works, why good ideas fail, and what must change if policy is to deliver real progress.”

With its mix of experience, candour and analytical depth, Policy Without Politics offers policymakers, business leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals, students and concerned citizens a timely platform for understanding the ideas and decisions that shape national and continental development.
