The Society of African Journalists, SAJ wishes to commend the Benadir Regional Court for dismissing criminal charges filed against Somali journalist, Ali Adan Mumin of Goobjoog Media Group and ordering the release of the journalist by tomorrow.
Similarly, the SAJ also frowns at the unwarranted arrest, detention and subsequent charging of Adnan to court.
It sees the arrest of the journalist as an attempt to muzzle the press and stifle free speech.
SAJ also notes that Mumin’s posts and comments on Facebook have not violated any known Somali law, and such wondered why he is being detained by the Criminal Investigation Department.
It would be recalled that Adnan Munim was arrested last Tuesday by Somali security personnel for a post on his Facebook page, held incommunicado and subsequently charged to court.
