United States President, Joe Biden, speaking during the 79th UNGA Session in New York on September 24, 2024.

While watching the general debate of the 79th session of the General Assembly which opened on Tuesday, 24 September, and will continue through Saturday, 28 September, then conclude on Monday, 30 September 2024, it became obvious that Head’s of State and presidents rarely change the long held positions of their nations no matter how long those views are held with little room for compromise.

The theme for the general debate of the 79th session of the General Assembly is “Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations”.

Turkish President Reccip Erdogan speaks in defense of the Palestinians as a reaction to what Joe Biden said that seemed to justify the actions of the Israelis.

It was interesting listening to the United States President Joe Biden speak on the ongoing conflicts in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria between the Israeli military and the Arab armies in the Middle East.

At the same time, watching camera flashes of the Israeli, Syrian and Lebanese delegations in their candid video images of set and angry faces. Clear indication that rapprochement and peaceful resolution of the Middle East problems would be there for a very long time.

First the speech of President Biden was on the problems confronting Israel and why the Israeli citizens on the northern border cannot go back to their homes because of the security incursions from their Arab neighbors that has continued to maintain instability in the area.

The world listens. 79th UNGA in session

Biden may have advocated for peace in a two state solution between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

But listening to Turkish President, Reccip Erdogan who spoke up on behalf of the Palestinians that he presented as facing the genocidal actions of the Israeli military (IDF) and blamed the initial actions of attacking Israel to kidnap it’s vulnerable citizens that they tortured and in some cases raped and burned alive as reactions of an oppressed people who were legitimately reacting to the brutalities being meted to their occupiers.

Meanwhile the Israeli delegation as well as the Lebanese, Turkish and Palestinian delegations were looking on glumly.

The signs were there that no compromise is likely to be there in the near future that will be aimed towards a resolution of the crisis in the Middle East anytime soon.
