Mike Pompeo has become the substantive US Secretary of state by a 57-42 votes cast at Congress earlier in the day today, Nigerian time. He replaces Rex Tillerson who was uncharacteristically fired from the office after straying from his African trip to visit Nigeria’s president Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, which was not originally on the schedule.
While meeting with Buhari, Donald Trump released his sack message on his twitter handle.
As Tillerson was hurriedly packing his bags in an Abuja hotel room, Mike Pompeo was confidently taking brisk steps into the Oval Office to meet president Donald Trump.

Between the announcement and the confirmation, the former Central Intelligence Agency, CIA director has done some awesome behind the scenes work to foster rapprochement between North and South Korea, brother nations that are sworn Cold War enemies and neighbours. The North Korea / South Korea summit is ongoing now, and it was Mike Pompeo who secretly flew into the North Korea capital, Pyongyang to cut a deal with the hitherto seemingly belligerent North Korean leader, Kim Jong-Un.
Mike Pompeo once made a dry run at the US presidency under the Tea Party within the Republican Party. Those who opposed his nomination did so on account of his mouth. They say he fires it off un-diplomatically most times. But this coup he pulled off in North Korea is speaking loudly for him.
