Commends construction of Underground Tunnels to channel storm water from Uratta and Owerri-Aba

Deputy Chief of Staff in Abia State’s Deputy Governor’s Office, Sir Don Ubani, has commended the State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, Ph.D, for strategically adopting a holistic approach in addressing infrastructural challenges in the State.
Sir Ubani, who made his feelings known in a Press Statement issued at Government House, Umuahia, observed that it would have amounted to sheer waste of time, energy and resources if any attempt had been made to recover Port-Harcourt, Obohia and Ngwa Roads in Aba that collapsed more than twelve years ago, without paying maximum focus on Watershed Management.

According to Sir Ubani, the award of a contract of N27.4 billion Naira by the Ikpeazu Administration, in synergy with the World Bank, for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Port-Harcourt, Obohia and Ngwa Roads, with adequate emphasis on construction of Underground Tunnels to channel storm water from Uratta and Owerri-Aba ponds through Ngwa Road to the Aba River, is the most strategic approach towards the recovery of the three major economic roads that had remained impassable for more than twelve years and consequently affected the economic capacity of Aba and, therefore, the economic viability and prosperity of the State.
Sir Ubani, while appreciating the uncommon vision, determination and courage of Governor Ikpeazu to embark on this giagantic project, even at a time when uncertainties pervade the economic fortunes of Nigeria as a result of the damaging effects of COVID-19 pandemic, called on all Abians to rally round the Governor, as a move to change the Abia narrative.
