When Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike announced that he was going to invite Peter Obi to commission one of the fly-overs he had constructed in Port Harcourt city, supporters of the Labour Party presidential candidate started making preparations to home in on Port Harcourt with their welcome mat for Nigeria’s frontline presidential candidate.

Leading a delegation from Delta State was Prof. Julie Nwabogo Umukoro, Labour Party deputy gubernatorial candidate on behalf of Deacon Ken Pela, the governorship flag bearer.

Prof. Julie Nwabogo Umukoro, Delta State Labour Party deputy governorship candidate went to welcome Mr. Peter Obi in Port Harcourt.

Julie Nwabogo Umukoro has more than a passing interest in Fly-overs because Ughelli, the home town of Deacon Ken Pela usually gets choked up at weekends, as the main gateway to the hinterlands of Delta State like Isoko North, Isoko South, Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West, Ukwuani, Ijaw areas and other Itsekiri areas making movement very tortuous in the axis there.

Multi directional fly-overs in Ughelli town would make the traffic congestion there disappear. But such foresight in construction is happening only in Rivers State where the governor uses his State’s share of the saved thirteen percent allocations for infrastructural works, amongst other pursuits. All Niger Delta States received it from the Federal Government, but only Wike has so far utilized his own, and equally revealed this publicly.

That is the story behind the legacy of Fly-overs Governor Nyesom Wike is going to beautifully leave behind in Port Harcourt that has made movement in the city very easy.

The Labour Party gubernatorial candidate and his running mate seem keen to understudy the works of Wike in terms of projects.

An organic crowd, not induced, had gathered as early as eight O’clock in the morning to welcome former governor of Anambra State who is also the Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi to Port Harcourt.

It was an unprecedented gathering of Obi-dients who were already at the airport.
Soon afterwards, a roadshow commenced to Ikokwu Fly-over, which Obi had come to commission.

“This is more of a Peter Obi rally than a project inauguration and Obidients in Port Harcourt simply were on fire, because of their candidate”, said Favour Essien, a public affairs commentator.

Going by the massive Port Harcourt crowd that showed, Favour Essien concluded that “Rivers State is in the bag for Peter Obi”.

Going by the tone in the speeches concerning Peter Obi recently, Nyesom Wike is likely going to swing his support for the Labour Party presidential candidate, and not the PDP presidential candidate, for the reasons of equity, fairness and justice.
