Alleged Assassination Attempt Aftermath: Fani-Kayode Tells Buhari To Rein In SARS

A frontline opposition party chieftain, Femi Fani-Kayode of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari to rein in the military outfit, SARS in Rivers state and called on Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari to rein in the military outfit, SARS in Rivers state in the aftermath of a seeming assassination attempt on the life of the state governor, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike whose security detail was knocked down on Saturday, November 11, 2017 while on his outrider motor bike.
The State Anti Robbery Squad, SARS operatives were escorting a former governor of the state, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, now the minister of Transport under the Buhari administration that he helped to midwife into power, having defected from then ruling party, the PDP.
While decrying the incident, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode had tweeted on his handle thus :
using SARS thugs to attempt to murder Gov. Wike and knocking down his outrider with a car will not help Rotimi Ameachi win Rivers state.
It will only lead to bloodshed, reprisals and a vicious cycle of violence, death and destruction.
I urge @MBuhari to call his mad dog to order.
A statement by the governor’s media aide, Mr Simeon Nwakaudu, said the incident happened at Nwanja junction, Trans Amadi road as the governor was inspecting an ongoing road construction job in the area.
The statement said the governor’s out rider was allegedly hit by the convoy and the Policemen in the Pilot car attacked.
Governor Wike was unhurt in the shocking incident according to the statement, for he continued with his inspection of the road project.
It will be recalled that Governor Wike has always had brushes with the anti robbery squad in the state. One of the operatives once threatened to shoot him when he came out last year after midnight in response to a distress call from a Appeal court Judge whose home was being raided at such ungodly hours by security forces, not far from his official residence.
Governor Wike has at another time exposed a SARS commander of being an alleged kingpin behind kidnappings going on in the state.
