NANS Advocates Adequate Funding Of Higher Education For Nation’s Development

Observing the International Students Day in Kaduna.

The National Association of Nigerian Students, (NANS) has advocated adequate funding of higher institutions for the development of the educational sector in Nigeria.

President of Northern Youth Council of Nigeria, Comrade Isah Abubakar made the call at the occasion organised by the students to commemorate the International Students Day held at the Institute of Water Resources, Kaduna.

The President lamented the poor condition of higher institutions in the country where students study under difficult conditions which calls for serious concern.

Comrade Isah Abubakar appealed to the Federal and State Governments to increase the budgetary allocation to these institutions which according to him, “no country in the world would develop without giving adequate priority to the education sector”.

In a remark, the Senate President of the association, Comrade Abdulmajeed Oladimeji Oyeniyi called for more budgetary allocation to the Nigerian Defence Academy, the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Aviation College, Zaria for the general interest of all Nigerians.
He said proper funding would give opportunity to youth and also keep Nigeria at an advantageous position over other African countries.
Comrade Abdulmajeed also advised students to pay more attention to their studies and avoid any vices that may jeopardise their dreams of becoming future leaders.

Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kaduna State Council, Comrade Adamu Yusuf challenged the student leaders to champion the fight against corruption and support the agitation by the labour leaders for thirty thousand naira as minimum wage.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of certificates of credence to the NDA Commandant, Kaduna State, Chairman of the NUJ, State Commissioner of Police and the Provost, Federal Cooperative College Kaduna, Vice Chancellor, Kaduna State University, (KASU) amongst others.
