The Ewi of Ado-Ekiti and the Ewi-in-Council have denied reports that a shrine in front of the palace was destroyed.
They said the reports that Governor Ayo Fayose demolished the Ewi’e shrine were “absolutely false”.
A statement by the Secretary to the Ewi-in-Council and Odole of Ado-Ekiti, Chief E. B. Ogunmodimu, said the Olookori Efa, the head of the Efas (traditional Police) of Oke-Ewi, has also denied the claim.
The statement said another report that there was “pandemonium as Ekiti Residents stop Fayose from demolishing shrine, sacred trees” was not true.
It reads: “This is to formally state that both stories are false. As a matter of fact, Chief Francis Fagbuaro, the current Arowa of Ado-Ekiti, who is in charge of the deities referred to, was physically present during the said exercise.
“From the available facts on the issue, the alleged ‘pandemonium’ never took place as reported in the social media and newspapers.
“These false reports could not be far from remote relationship with the incidence of the news (video clips) that previously went viral visa a-vis the interface between the Ewi, Ewi-In-Council and Governor Fayose on the urban renewal project currently going on in the state capital.
“What actually happened before now was that the Ewi Ule Ado, Oba (DR) Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe Aladesanml III (CON, JP) only interceded on behalf of the sons and daughters of Ado-Ekiti, especially his subjects that were mostly affected by the demolition of their buildings in the course of the urban renewal project going on in Ado-Ekiti metropolis.
“It is hereby categorically stated that the Ewi in his God-given wisdom clearly expressed himself with due respect to His Excellency, the Governor of Ekiti State on the matter.
“The Governor’s efforts in getting rid of the miscreants in Ado metropolis and the ongoing beautification project are appreciated and highly commendable. The Ewi’s position is to pacify the people that the relationship with the Governor is still cordial.
“It is hereby stated that the Ewi has no quarrel with His Excellency, the Governor of Ekiti State as being alleged. The Ewi has all along been very supportive of the Governor and his administration.”
