While permutations remain ongoing as to who gets what in the incoming National Assembly, the National Coordinator of the Core Middle Belt Forum, Comrade Michael Odeh Akatu has thrown his weight behind Senator Kabiru Gaya for the post of the Deputy Senate President (DSP).
According to Comrade Michael, Senator Gaya has the wealth of experience behind him, having been in the Senate since 2007.
“Before then , he was the Governor of Nigeria’s most populated northern state, Kano and during his tenure, the State remained crisis free.
He added that the Kano born Senator is also a detribalized Nigerian who respects all Nigerians irrespective of their religious affiliations.
‘I will liken Senator Gaya to John McCain, David Mark and Barack Obama wrapped together .
Comrade Michael also added that Senator Kabiru Gaya is the link between the youths and the old, the link between the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC ) in the Senate .
“If we the youths want to move forward , then let’s go for someone who is the bridge between the youths and matured ones.
” if we want a stable National Assembly 2019-2023, let’s go for Senator Gaya .
” If you follow the activities of the senator , you would also notice that Senator Gaya would carry the Middle Belt people along with him in the senate
” it is to this end, that we are embarking on a sensitization tour of each state in the Middle Belt to pressure our representatives to support Mr.Gaya.” he added.
It is however not known how much leverage the CMBF has on the senators representing the region as to persuade them to make a choice for the law makers, neither was there any technical data given to assess the number of bills sponsored or championed by the Senator and how beneficial they are to the Middle Belt.
Comrade Michael Odeh spoke to a team of journalists on Sunday in Kaduna, after a meeting of Middle Belt Youths in Sabon Tasha .
