The revenue generating Park and Pay concept initiated by the Jos Metropolis Development Board, with the added benefit of decongesting the city center for easy traffic flow which was temporarily suspended for reorganization, is at the verge of resuming operations once again.

This is aimed at avoiding revenue loss to the state government and financially throttle developmental strides in the state, as well as providing social amenities for the citizens of Plateau state.

The Acting General Manager of Jos Metropolitan Development Board(JMDB), Kafas Yilrwang gave the assurance during the launching of Building Energy Efficiency Code (BEEC) held at the Crispan Hotel, Along Old Airport Road, Jos, Plateau State.

Kafas said the board is not resting on its oars, signifying that soon, the board will resume the exercise as they are currently working on the technical details of the internally generated revenue platform, “as we don’t want the state to be losing revenue”, he said.

He further added that when the board is fully back to business, when “you park your car in areas mapped out by the board, you’d be expected to pay. But in the event that you do not want to pay, kindly choose the option of not bringing your vehicle to the public places that are designated for ‘Park and Pay’ by the board”.

He stressed that the good thing about the concept of ‘Park and Pay’, aside from generating revenue for the government of Plateau state, it would help in bringing sanity to the state metropolis by controlling the indiscriminate parking of cars without recourse to the traffic flow in the metropolis.

On the launching of Building Energy Efficiency Code (BEEC) that was launched in Plateau state, Thursday, the General manager said that there is a code that sets out guidelines which buildings must conform with in order to lead to energy efficiency.

He further stressed that the code is basically going to be of great help especially to the professionals, like the developers, engineers and town planners with the first step being the design of a building and its approval.

He further added that there are two side to it, the professionals that do the designs and the professionals within the (MDE) who are in the business of processing and approval.

Thus “the code will guide all of us, it will guide the professionals and most of us within the (MDE) who approve for the building to be erected”.

On the benefits, the General Manager said it will reduce the loss of energy in the buildings, and stressed that the people have been wallowing in ignorance for quite a long time.

” Without the right information, many of us may not know that the way you position your windows, the building position itself and the type of gadgets used in your building can either make you spend a lot in your house or not”, he further said.

He equally added that now that the whole world is facing an energy crisis including Nigeria, “imagine someone going to spend more because his building is not properly designed” .

He further revealed that the benefits to the average Nigerian are unquantifiable as “the code is meant for everybody, irrespective of status in the society, both the rich and the poor.

He advised that builders should ensure that they engage the services of professionals when designing the plans of their houses and religiously follow the code which will help in reducing energy usage.

He reiterated that the rich may not feel the impact of energy usage in his or her house, as he or she may not bother about the cost, unlike the average man or woman.

“The code is available in the state to be perused by all and sundry”, he concluded.
